Decisions, Decisions

Chloe has been invited to join Tri-M and will be inducted this evening.

The Tri-M Music Honor Society is the international music honor society for middle/junior high and high school students. It is designed to recognize students for their academic and musical achievements, reward them for their accomplishments and service activities, and to inspire other students to excel at music and leadership. The ceremony will begin at 7 PM and Chloe needs to be at the school by 6:30 PM. This has created a bit of a logistical nightmare. I think I've finally accepted that we can't all do everything we usually do on a Wednesday AND attend the induction ceremony. The good news is this is great progress for me. The bad news is I still need to let EJ in on this development and my other committments know that I have dropped them for the evening. I simply cannot be in 4 places at once.

A Boy and His Dog

Everything for a Reason

Chloe arrived back at the school around 4 PM as promised. AND, her luggage was on her bus so we did not have to plot strategies on how to pick it up and get it home before or after school. YEAH!

A little more good news is that the BOA organization has offered the SFHS War Eagles band a spot in the Super Regional taking place this weekend at the Georgia Dome. Chloe and I are very hopeful that this will happen. The directors are taking a quick poll to see how close to 100% participation they can get. (They have actually acknowledged that previous plans may have been made and that not all plans can be cancelled. Very progressive.)

I was a mean mommy this morning and insisted that Chloe go to school today. I don't think she was very surprised about my answer. But I was very surprised that she would push it as hard as she did!

Doylestown or Bust

After all these many months of saving, planning and anticipating October 25 finally arrived! And the Bands of America event scheduled in Doylestown, PA was cancelled.

First, the event was delayed due to the weather forecast. The event organizers initially chose to cancel the preliminary competition and scheduled the event to take place in the evening and consider only the 'final' performances as the ones to be judged. Chloe called me at some point LATE Saturday evening, early Sunday morning to say they never got to perform. She said there were two bands ahead of them (which means the band had made the trip over from NJ to PA, warmed up, put their uniforms on and unloaded the pit equipment and instruments) when the officials cancelled the rest of the event. NO make up time or date. No competition. I'm so disappointed for them. I couldn't really tell how Chloe was feeling. I think mostly at that point she was exhausted.

From the few conversations we had Sunday, I think she had a great day in New York City shopping and touring. Not sure when they pulled out to head home. I had a call from her around 9:30 this morning to say they had just been told they should arrive at the school around 4 PM. HOWEVER, 1 of the 3 coach buses was still in NY or NJ due to engine trouble. The good news is (for me), it isn't Chloe's bus. The bad news (for Chloe) is that it is the bus with all the luggage. So we aren't sure when her suitcase with all her NYC loot will arrive. She seemed quite put out by that piece of news.

I hope Chloe's overall memories of this trip will be good. Even though things did not go exactly according to plan there were a lot of things that did go right. My wish for all of them is that they had a great experience in spite of the things that went wrong.

I can't wait to see my baby. She has been gone long enough!
